What this project is about

Morro is an iOS simulation experience for first-timers who are considering living in Japan. Instead of relying only on second-hand stories or idealized expectations, users can explore realistic situations based on their preferences and circumstances before making a major decision. Apple Intelligence and the OpenAI API power interactive conversations, while MapKit, widgets, and Live Activities keep location-aware scenarios and active experiences accessible throughout the journey.

Challenge

People planning to live abroad often face too much fragmented information and struggle to identify what is relevant to their own situation.
Second-hand experiences and idealized expectations can make it difficult to form a realistic picture of daily life in Japan.
The simulation needed to feel personal and interactive while keeping scenario progress and recommendations easy to revisit.

Solution

Designed preference-based simulations that help users explore realistic living situations and compare options before moving abroad.
Combined Apple Intelligence with the OpenAI API to create interactive AI conversations that respond to the user's choices and scenario context.
Used SwiftData to persist user preferences, simulation progress, conversation context, and saved decisions on-device.
Integrated MapKit to connect scenarios with relevant places and location context across Japan.
Built WidgetKit and Live Activity experiences so users can follow active simulations and key updates outside the main app.
